Nights in the gardens of Spain

Nuits in the gardens of Spain is a musical work of Manuel of Falla.

Falla started to only compose these pieces like night for Piano in 1909, but the pianist Ricardo Viñes suggested to him making of it a work for piano and orchestra. Falla completed it in 1915 and dedicated it to Ricardo Viñes. It was created on April 9th, 1916 with the Teatro Real by the Symphony orchestra of Madrid, directed by Enrique Fernández Arbós, with Jose Cubiles with the piano.

The Nights describe three gardens:

  1. In el Generalife (gardens of Jasmine S of the palate of the Alhambra)
  2. Danza lejana (garden not-identified pretext with an exotic dance)
  3. In los garden of the sierra of Córdoba (dance gipsy for the festival of Corpus Christi)

Falla spoke about the Nuits in the gardens of Spain like d'" symphonic impressions ". The part of piano is elaborate, brilliant and eloquent, but seldom dominant. The partition for orchestra is exuberant. It is about impressionist work more of the Master of Gadès.

Original work is written for piano, three Flûte S and Piccolo, two Hautbois and cor anglais, two Clarinette S, two Basson S, four horns, two Trompette S and Tuba S, drinking cups, Cymbale S, triangle, Célesta, Harpe, and cords. Its approximate duration is from 22 to 26 minutes.
