A nightclub or discotheque , or more commonly in shortened box or disco music , or club (of the English nightclub ) is a night space of entertainment .
In general, one associates the clubs with a space of Danse on a musical bottom ( dancefloor in English).
Music
The music diffused in these places can be played in
live or mixed by a DJ.
Traditionally, the musical genres diffused in the clubs were
Blues,
Country, Disco, Hip hop,
Jazz and
Rock. Today, it is more current to find there any kind of electronic musics like the
Drum and low, the
House, the
Trance or the
Techno, or of the musics
Groove like the
Ragga, the
R' B or the
Rap.
Practices
They are also places where one consumes Boisson S (often alcoholic). One can find also there Danseur S and dancers professionals and other forms of artistic expression which ensure the animation of the establishment. For example, sexy evenings show or chippendale are sometimes organized, subject to customers more or less concerned. Elections of miss, evenings foams, of the large DJ or of the local groups can be invited there.
Specialized boxes
These establishments often specialize according to one or several styles of music, the
Socioprofessional category of the public, sound
Sexual orientation (there exist “gay” establishments, “gay friendly”) or animations and services offered. Clubs known as " échangistes" or " libertins" sevicent more and more in the cities and become with the mode, with a luxurious aspect attracting and framework.
Semi-official functions
The nightclubs, in addition to their official function
which is to distract itself using music and from dance have several semi-official functions
most of the time , most obvious is to be a place of Séduction but they is often also places where are exerted illegal activities such as the
Prostitution or traffic of Drogue. Whereas certain boxes try éradiquer these two activities, others benefit from it direct or indirect according to standing from the establishment.
The bouncer
The nightclub is a place favourable with the scuffles: the drink, the competitions in love or between bands, the possible traffics, crowd, the boosted atmosphere support the supervening of scuffles and brawls.
An important member of the personnel of nightclub is the bouncer (also called sortor or gatekeeper or physiognomist) whose function is to ensure the peace and the good reputation of the establishment. That consists in preventing from entering (for example if the maximum number people authorized inside is reached) or obliging to leave the undesirable individuals, either by their behavior, or by their reputation or their look (nightclubs being able to impose some Tenue: one speaks about “correct behavior required”).
When persuasion is not enough, the bouncer must employ more radical means calling upon his physical capacities and of combativeness, while privileging discretion.
Expulsions for reasons of ethnic, real or supposed membership, being prohibited, the bouncer can find himself in the position of having to defend oneself against charges of illegal discrimination; certain associations such as S.O.S Racism were illustrated to denounce these practices via testings, whose results from now on acquired a legal value. The ethnic co-education of the bouncers is a frequent solution with this problem, even if it constitutes sometimes an against-argument with these charges.
Qualities (5 P) of a good bouncer are:
- Perspicacity: to know to distinguish with acuity the origin of the disorders in a difficult medium (lighting, smoke, noise, crowd)
- Promptitude: to act without delay before the situation does not degenerate
- Psychologie: to include/understand the signs, of the owner, the colleagues or the troublemakers
- Aspect: to admit with safety the individuals to supervise or draw aside
- Physical: To intimidate, if possible, but to act physically when that becomes necessary

History
The term
discotheque seems to come from the name of a club located in 1941 rue de la Huchette in Paris, at an unknown address. It may be that it is the personnel which chose the discs there, or perhaps was there just a juke-box at the disposal of the customers. The birth of the club has a relationship with the Occupation and certain prohibitions imposed by the Germans. The modern concept of discotheque was however invented a little later, and elsewhere: in 1953, whereas she worked with the
Whiskey in Gogo in Paris,
Régine decided to paint the lights of all the colors, to animate them with the hand, and to replace the juke-box by a double record player which can diffuse the music in an uninterrupted way, and especially under its control. Régine will have predilection for animated music and will popularize the
Cha-cha.
