Nievre (affluent of the Loire)

The Nievre is a river of Burgundy, sprinkling the homonymous department.

Right affluent of the the Loire which it joined with Nevers, Nievre extends on 53 km length. It joins together the Nievre de Champlemy and of Arzembouy. Its basin covers 630 km ² for a medium flow of 5 m ³ /s.

Its name, Nervium at the 13th century, would come from hydronymic pre-Celtic * a Neuar- to judge some by the name of the town of Nevers which in drift: Nevirnum , Ebirno , Neberno , Nevernis … of old * a Néuar-ino- .
