The department of Nievre (58) is a department French which owes its name with the river éponyme.

History

The department was created with the French revolution, the March 4th 1790 pursuant to the law of the December 22nd 1789, starting from part of the province of Resident of Nevers Leitartikel: History of Nievre

Geography

Nievre belongs to the area Burgundy. It is bordering on the departments of the Yonne, of the Coast-with Or, Saône-et-Loire, Allier, of the Cher and the Loiret.

In south-west the the Loire joined the Allier with Nevers (Prefecture of Nievre). The Loire constitutes the Western border of the department with the Cher. The border Is department is the solid mass of the Morvan in the past exploited for its wood.

The Nevers-native business man Jean-François Hénin announced the August 12th 2006 the project supported by the general advice of a mine of coal coupled to a powerplant of 1000 MW around Cossaye in the south of Nievre (1,4 billion d'€ investments and 400 employment), in this old mining department where the last mine closed in 1974.
