Nieuwegein

Nieuwegein is a city of the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. Its population is of: 61512 inhabitants (on January 1st 2006). With this population, Nieuwegein is the third provincial town of Utrecht.

Origin of Nieuwegein

During the years of sixty and seventy, it did without a torrent suburbanisation out of the area ranging between Rotterdam, $the Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht. Wanting to prevent this suburbanisation, the Gouvernement decided to create a new place in this area which could grow. The city was to be created around Utrecht. Then the government decided to build this city in the area of Nieuwegein, because there were two villages over there, Jutphaas and Vreeswijk. Between these villages one could build new the districts of Nieuwegein. Finally the Nieuwegein city had been born in on July 1st 1971.
