- Abbaye Saint-Vincent established in XIe century by canons augustins engaged in the drainage works of the marais.
De Romance character poitevin the unit is remarkable but it was deeply restored at the XIXe century. The gate preserved its initial character but the bell-tower is a recent addition which breaks the Romance character of the église.
Le contiguous cloister is one of the rare Romance cloisters remained intact. - the village shelters also a house of flour-milling in a Water mill restored, which ensures of animations on the work of the Meunier

The queen Aliénor of Aquitaine would have been born with Nieul-on-the Autise. His/her mother, Aénor de Châtellerault, was buried in the royal abbey Saint-Vincent de Nieul on Autise.
