Nicoletta
Nicoletta , of its true name Nicole Chappuis-Grisoni , is a French singer , born the April 11th 1944 in Vongy (district of Thonon-the-Baths in Haute-Savoie, which formerly was an independent commune).
Beginnings
It is initially Disc jockey (1961) in the Parisian clubs with the mode of the beginning of the Années 1960. Located by Léo Missir, at the time artistic director at Barclay, it records its first album. In 1966, on its first 45 turns, it takes again to the Man with the motor bike , adaptation by Jean Dréjac of traditional of the pioneers of the rock'n'roll Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller (created in 1955 by Cheers under the title Black Denim Pants And Motorcycle Boots then in French by Edith Piaf).
One year later, its career starts in a way fulgurating with titles such as the Music ( Angelica of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil), to forget that one liked (face “has” very first 45 turns of Nino Ferrer, in 1963, which had not met any success at the time but how one so extraordinary interpreter had obviously located! ) or It died the sun on words of Pierre Delanoë, a song which will make the round the world tour when it is taken again a few months later by Ray Charles under the title The Sun Died . Always in 1967, it creates the Organ of antan , version French of has Whiter Shade Of Blade , planetary tube and slow fox trot eternal of the English group Procol Harum, or I Could has Spell one You , traditional blues voodoo signed Screamin' Jay Hawkins, redécouvert at the same time by Alan Price, organist original of the Animals ( That was to arrive , words French of Guy Marchand).
The crashing to pieces arrival of Nicoletta, at the same time as Michel Polnareff or Jacques Dutronc, in quite different kinds, rings the knell of the Yéyé S and mark also the great return of the singers to voice, this voice so sensual which inspired with Charles Aznavour this pretty poem: It with the voice of the words and the heart, the anguishes of the body. The voice of the vehemence of sought, lost happiness and sometimes met. The voice which calls with the love, with the act in love. It is the realism of its generation.
In fact, Nicoletta is not satisfied in 1968 to sit its notoriety both in France and abroad: called by the press “the Idol of the idols”, it leaves in round with Johnny Hallyday while working narrowly with Eddie Barclay and Léo Missir (with which it wrote Vivre for the love ) while Jean Bouchéty sign the orchestration of He will remain to me nothing , adaptation of Fly Me To The Moon , enormous American standard.
In 1969, one finds it on the tape of the film Jeff with an air with success signed François of Roubaix, whereas three of its pieces again put the public at its feet: Quand one that the love , Where you have passed my Saint-Germain-of-Meadows? (words of Anne Grégory, music of Michel Legrand and Eddie Barclay) and My life it is a horse-gear .
1970 is the year of the voyages: it presents France to the official reception of the Midem with three songs then takes part in the Festival of Sanremo and gives a series of recitals to Canada and in South America, while turning its first great role with the cinema in an one-way ticket of Jose Giovanni.
In 1971, with French the rock'n'roll group Zoo (which, the same year, collaborates with Léo Ferré on the Dog and the album the Loneliness ) Nicoletta records the album worship Visage which comprises inter alia God is negro - “revolutionary” song at the time so much so that it was prohibited in Spain -, Promeneuse especially made up for it by Julien Clerc or its very beautiful interpretation of loneliness, that does not exist of Gilbert Bécaud. But it is obviously Mamy Blue which pulverizes the records of the sales.
The album Nicoletta 73 , with its famous small pocket drawn by Patrick Loiseau, draws up the one year summary definitely charged. One finds there the closed Shutters signed Rémo Forlani and Paul Misraki for the film éponyme of Jean-Claude Brialy. This last writing about it Nicoletta, lamp in the night, sings with its body, generous and direct it throws its voice broken with the wind which often carries it, tears it, chokes it or always grows it and plants themselves in the heart of those which believe in the love.
Fio Maravilla , a brought back song of Brazil (French words by Boris Bergman, future lyric writer of Bashung) also rises at the top of the sales with multiple gold discs. At the end of this same year, Nicoletta records Enfants come to sing the hope of which it signs the words. The song will be crowned Grand Prix of the Académie Charles-Cross-country race.
Christmas 1974, to have shortly after interpreted in French the song of the film Butterfly , it records his first Gospel. She will sing the splendid version of Glory Alleluia for a midnight mass organized by RTL. She ignites the Olympia in 1975: three weeks of triumph which announces next the opus On the edges of tenderness . A few months later, its very beautiful version of To what is used for to live free ( I Can' T Give You Anything But My Love ) precedes the publication by its album 1976, purple Amour , composed by its new musical director Daniel Carlet, which also signs Broadway , one year later.
After a few years devoted to the family life, Nicoletta creates the surprise in 1983. She interprets with Bernard Lavilliers a duet on the title Black thoughts ; a surprising couple which makes say to a critic inspired: The voice of Nicoletta, superb and declining, mark anguishes of Lavilliers at the edge of the chasm. The individual one is sold with a million and half specimens.
One then sees it interpreting Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill ( Rise and fall of the town of Mahagony in 1987), sings Mamy Blue with Beijing in front of tens of thousands of spectators (1988) then it fits the ballerinas of Esméralda in the musical comedy Quasimodo , on musics of William Sheller (1989).
William Sheller which will become the accomplice of the album I wait, I learn in 1995, the space of a song, before devoting to him, as promised, a complete album, nicely entitled Connivences whose it ensures the writing, the composition and the production in 1998.
Meanwhile, Nicoletta carried out a dream of always: to turn through France with a troop of chorus-singers for a spectacle entirely dedicated to the great art of the gospel. A colossal round (already 1 million spectators) which gives place, in 1997, with a very beautiful album live. With its new spectacle Nicoletta with the Casino of Paris (1999) and its European round (2001/2002).
2001/2004 - One of its larger titles the Music inspires and marks deeply the Star Academy (France), which was and is still media success that one knows. Nicoletta continues its rounds which are played closed counters.
In October 2006, it leaves its new album Jazz the Appointment .
Success
In 1967, it is two great successes:
- the Music , an adaptation of Anne Grégory according to Angelica of Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, interpreted by this last in 1966.
- It died the sun , words of Pierre Delanoë and music of Hubert Giraud, which becomes its reference and of which she makes a standard thanks to her exceptional interpretation. This work will be adapted and interpreted by Ray Charles under the title The Sun Died and will be in particular taken again by Tom Jones.
Artistically demanding, it conducts a campaign anti playback. Thus it will be much more present on scene than on television.
During the events of May 1968, she sings for the strikers of the factories.
In 1971, it records Mamy Blue , a title Gospel written and composed by Hubert Giraud, which will meet an enormous success and will be taken again many times.
In 1973, it founds its own label, “Grated Harmed”, in order to occur but also with an aim of helping of young singers. The same year, it takes again Fio Maravilla Brazilian Jorge Ben adapted in French by the lyric writer Boris Bergman.
In 1976 it leaves Glory Alleluia whose lyric writer and arranger are André Pascal, Christmas carol on an Irish traditional air.
Eclipses
In 1978, it marries Patrick Chappuis, a Swiss jeweller. Their Alexandre son is born the following year. Nicoletta meets again success in 1983 with Black thoughts , in duet with Bernard Lavilliers. She divorces Patrick Chappuis in 1985.In 1987, it plays the part of Jenny in the opera Rise and fall of the town of Mahagony (Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht). Two years afterwards, she plays Esméralda in the musical comedy Quasimodo (by William Sheller)
Á to start from this time, of the financial problems push Nicoletta to multiply the official receptions. Its discs do not contain any more “tubes”, in spite of the quality of its collaborations (William Sheller, Richard Cocciante, Pierre Delanoë…).
In 1992, Nicoletta loses his/her grandmother and is interested in the Religion. It joins together a West-Indian choral society gospel then with which it gives concerts. Since, it occurs much in engaged concerts, in particular in favor of the Tiers-monde.
In 2001, the Star Academy takes as anthem the Music .
In 2006, Nicoletta leaves a new album the Appointment at Universal Classics. An album with prevalence jazz, with resumptions of standards such as Summertime , Georgia one my mind , EIB to mir bist schon but also titles written by Bernard Lavilliers Samba Cancao , Patrick Eudeline Like so of nothing and the High walls but also Manu Chao. Nicoletta preserves the affection of the public, in particular thanks to its voice Blues powerful, completely single in the French musical landscape since even Ray Charles said that it was only Blanche which has a voice of Black …
