Nicolet is a city Quebec (Canada) located in the regional Municipalité of county of Nicolet-Yamaska of which it is the chief town, and the administrative area of the Center-of-Quebec.

The name of Nicolet commemorates Jean Nicolet, explorer and clerk of the company of the Hundred-Associates.

Chronology municipale1668: establishment and construction of the manor of Pierre Monet de Moras on the island which still bears its name.

1672: Concession of the seignery of Nicolet by the intendant heel in Arnoult de Bois of Loubias. 1673: Aquisition of the seignery by Michel Cressé. 1696: Aquisition of the seignery by Jean-Baptiste Poulin de Courval. 1701: Foundation of the mission Saint-Jean-Baptist. 1710: Construction of a vault on the ground of Jacques Daniau. 1722: Construction of a presbytery. 1729: Nomination of a priest resident. 1734à1740: Construction of the second church. 1756: To arrive of the first exiled Acadian colonists of their fatherland. 1781 à1784: Construction of the third church. 1801: opening of an elementary school. 1803: Opening of the seminar of NIcolet, third Traditional college of Low-Canada. 1831: Canonical erection of the parish Saint-Jean-Baptist of Nicolet. 1845: Constitution of the Saint-Jean-Baptist municipality of Nicolet.

• July 1st 1855: The municipality of parish of Saint-Jean-Baptist-to-Nicolet is made up during the first municipal cutting of Quebec.

• December 24th 1872: The town of Nicolet is detached from Saint-Jean-Baptist-in-Nicolet.ET Arrivée from the sisters from the Assumption from the Blessed Virgin who moves their head office of Saint-Gregoire the Large one.

1873: Blessing of the fourth church. Collapse of the bell-tower of the church which could not be rebuilt because of the weakness of bearing srtucture. 1885: Establishment of the episcopal seat of Nicolet. 1887: Opening of the commercial academy by the Brothers of the Christian schools. 1897: Beginning of the construction of the second cathedral. 1899: Collapse of part of the second cathedral in construction. (June 21st) 1906: Set fire to of a cartier of the city, the first cathedral, trisieme and the head office of the sisters of the assumption are destroyed. 1908: Inauguration of the new head office of the sisters of the Assumption and the teacher training school our young girls. 1938: Foundation of the school of agriculture to the seminar of Nicolet. 1952: Establishment of the center of experimentation and of tests Canadian Armed forces. (March 21st) 1955: Set fire to of 35 buildings détruissants trade and throwing 75 families with the street. (November 12th) 1955: Collapse of part of the city in the river Nicolet (layer of ground) destruction of the academy commercial of évêché, Closing and demolition of the cathedral going back to 1910 located just beside the open hole. 1963: Inauguration of the current Cathedral. 1968: The seminar of Nicolet becomes the institute of police force in a building going back to 1831.

• May 10th 1930: The municipality of Nicolet-South is detached from Saint-Jean-Baptist-of-Nicolet.
• December 27th 2000: Nicolet, Nicolet-South and Saint-Jean-Baptist-of-Nicolet amalgamate under the name of town of Nicolet .
