Nicole Stephan , or Stephan (born Nicole de Rothschild the May 27th 1923 with Paris and dead the March 14th 2007), was a producing actress, and French director . Remained unmarried, it was Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and Chevalier of Arts and the Letters.

Of Jew confession, committed in the army during the Second world war, she knew the Prison in Spain in 1942 by crossing the the Pyrenees to join the free French Forces, was liaison officer in Germany. She was located in 1948 by Jean-Pierre Melville in a course of dramatic art, because she had failed the Academy. Melville made it turn in the Silence of the sea and the Enfant terribles . It carries out two short films on Israel, the Generation of the desert (1958) and a war for a peace (1967), and While waiting for Godot in Sarajevo (1993).

In 1962, Nicole Stephan obtains the rights to film With the research of time lost . It is the beginning of a long adventure, during which she collaborates not only with Luchino Visconti, but also with Ennio Flaiano, Harold Pinter, Joseph Losey, Peter Brook and Volker Schlöndorff.
