Nicolas de Nicolay
Nicolas de Nicolay (1517 - 1583)
Born with the Low register in Oisans, in the Dauphine in 1517, it left France in 1542 to take part, as a man of war, with the seat of Perpignan then to the hands of Charles Quint.
He travelled in all Western Europe (Germany, Denmark, England, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Greece and even Turkey). He was useful besides in the armies of almost all the countries which he visited.
On its return in France, Henri II, which succeeded his/her father François Ier, appoints it his ordinary geographer and manservant.
In 1551, Henri II orders to him to follow Gabriel d' Aramon, sent in embassy near the Large Turk, Soliman the Magnificent the. During this voyage, it has the semi-official role to make land surveys of the various sites which it will visit (of which Constantinople).
In 1583, it dies in Soissons where he was artillery police chief, after a stay with the royal castle of Moulin.

- general Description of the town of Lyon and the old provinces of the Lyonese and the Beaujolais wine (work published and annotated by the Company of Topography historical of Lyon, and preceded by a note on NR. of Nicolay by Victor Advielle, Lyon, impr. from Mougin-Rusand, 1881).
