Nicolas Mignard

Nicolas Mignard (* February 7th 1606 with Troyes in Champagne - † March 20th 1668) was a French painter and engraver, brother of Pierre Mignard. It made its studies with a painter whose name is not known.

Biography

It spent 2 years in Italy to Rome (1635 - 1637) copying the painters Annibal Carraci and Albani. Then is established with Avignon, where it painted for an amateur the Amours of Théagène and Chariclêe , and where it Maria, which makes it call Mignari of Avignon. He also worked for the notable ones and convents.

Called with Paris by Mazarin in 1660, it was charged by Louis XIV with decorating several apartments with the ground floor with the Tuileries.

It was accepted with the Academy the March 3rd 1663 and became vice-chancellor about it.

He left five boards engraved according to the paintings made by Annibal Carrache for the Galerie Farnèse.

It is the brother of the painter Pierre Mignard tells Mignard the Romain.
