Nicolas Joseph Schreiber

Nicolas Joseph Schreiber , born the May 24th 1752 with Metz, was the son of Marie Elizabeth Kelly, of Irish origin, born in the United Provinces in 1714, and of Jean Georges Schreiber (1715 - 1788), of origin Zurich oise, first sergeant of the company of Regenbach to the Swiss regiment of Dirtied-Samade, ordered by Mr. de Boccard and in garrison with Metz since the end of the war of succession of Austria.

Drum in 1761 at nine years, it began its rise only with the Révolution: executive officer in 1792, Colonel the June 19th 1795, Brigadier general the October 18th 1809. It fought especially in the 22e regiment of line and had a minor role at the time of the Bataille Marengo. Wounded several times, it was appointed commander of weapons of the place of Parma, where it was still in 1814. Fact baron of empire in 1813, it was confirmed under the Restauration. In retirement the December 24th 1814, it dies in Fontainebleau the February 12th 1833.

Its biography was written by the Dennery general, of Metz, in a article published in October 1920 in the Lorraine country and the Metz-native country (number 20).
