Nicolas Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle

Nicolas Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle , (in German Nikolaus Ier von Mecklenburg-Werle), born towards 1210, deceased the May 14th 1277.

He was prince de Mecklembourg-Rostock of 1229 with 1234, prince de Mecklembourg-Werle of 1234 with 1277.

Marriage and descent

In 1231, Nicolas Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle married Jutta d' Anhalt (1277), (girl of prince Henri Ier d' Anhalt.

Six children were born from this union:

  • Bernard Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle, († 1286), prince de Mecklembourg-Werle

  • Hedwige de Mecklembourg-Werle († 1287), in 1260 it married Co Margrave Jean II of Brandebourg († 1281)

  • Marguerite de Mecklembourg-Werle, it married in 1248 the duke Barnim Ier de Poméranie († 1278), widow, it married the count Maurice de Spielgelberg

Biography

At the time of the first division of the principality of Mecklembourg in 1234, Nicolas Ier de Mecklembourg accepted Werle. During the minority of his/her brother, Henri Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle it ensured regency. It carried out a war against the count Barmim Ier de Brandebourg, in this conflict it lost Perleberg, Wesenberg and Penzhin. After the death of his brother Pribislav Ier, he lives himself to allot Parchim, Plau and Goldberg. With its death, its sons divided its grounds. Bernard Ier accepted Werle, Herni Ier Güstrow and Jean Ier Parchim.

Nicolas Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle founded for Mirow the Order of Midsummer's Day of the hospital of Jerusalem.

Genealogy

Nicolas Ier de Mecklembourg-Werle belongs to the second branch, this line of Mecklembourg-Werle is resulting from the first branch of the Maison of Mecklembourg. This second line died out with the prince Guillaume de Mecklembourg-Werle-Güstrow in 1436.
