Nicolas Denis , born with Turns, was governor, general lieutenant for the king, and owner of part of the Acadie and Canada.

Having obtained the concession of the region which extends since the Cape Canceaux until Gaspé, it left for the America, in 1632. Properties were if little ensured in this country remote, that Denis, which had made important establishments in what belonged to him, had to support a war regulates some against its own compatriots. These divisions caused him the greatest wrong; a fire completed to ruin it. Since this accident, known as the father Charlevoix, it was not any more in a position to undertake anything considerable; and it was a great misfortune for this part of the News-France, which forever have a more able commander and more steady. Denis of return in France, after a forty years stay in America, during which he had visited most of the French possessions, published the result of his observations under this title: geographical and historical Description of the coasts of septentrional America, with the natural history of this country , Paris, 1672, 2 vol. in-12. One sees in this book, dedicated to the king, that Denis knew the country perfectly where it ordered, and average truths to draw an advantageous party from it, for France. He says that the structural timber that one can get for it, and fishes it cod, are worth treasures. The first it described with detail the processes of this sins - and, as he was sailor -, he does not leave something to be desired anything on this subject. It maintains little the reader his personal adventures, and offers various characteristics to him on the savages, not forgetting anything of what can give an exact idea of the country that it had lived so a long time.
