Nicolas Coustou , (Lyon, January 9th 1658 - Paris, May 1st 1733), is a French sculptor. His/her younger brother, Guillaume Coustou, like his son, Guillaume Coustou (wire) is also famous sculptors.
Nicolas Coustou is resulting from a family of wood-carver. Eighteen years old, it leaves Lyon to join his uncle Antoine Coysevox in Paris where last moves the royal Académie of painting and sculpture. After five years of studies, he is prize winner of the Prix Colbert, which enables him to continue its formation with the Académie from France to Rome of 1683 to 1686.
As from 1700, he works with the large building sites of Louis XIV, with the Château of Versailles, the Hôtel of the Invalids and the Parc of Marly, assisting Coysevox.
the Seine and the Marne , group (1712), intended for the Park of Marly then transferred to the Garden from Tileries. A copy with replaced the original in Louvre.
