Nicolò Barabino
Nicolò Barabino (Sampierdarena, district of Genoa, 1832 - Florence, 1891) is a painter and an Italian mosaïste of the school florentine which was also active in Genoa, its town of origin.
Biography
It begins its artistic studies with Giuseppe Isola with the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti from Genoa in company of Maurizio Dufour (with which it always remained in contact).It exposes between 1850 and 1851 to the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti di Genova , painting Agar nel deserto E Rinaldo E Amnida .
It gains a grant of Durazzo to study with Rome then with the Académie of Beautiful arts of Florence (1857), where its style continues.
He becomes president of the Circolo Artistico and receives many commissions in Italy and abroad: in the churches of the edge of the Ligure Sea (Sampierdarena, of Ligure Santa Margherita, Sestri Levante, Rapallo, Camogli), in France, Spain, in Belgium and Holland.
He paints especially with fresco in large-sized and historical subject or religious subject, according to the fashion of the time.
Turned over to Florence, it takes part in the decoration of the new frontage of Santa Maria del Fiore, by drawing the paperboards for the mosaics of the tympanum S of the gates.
