Nicobar with camail
The nicobar with camail ( Caloenas nicobarica ) is also called pigeon of Nicobar . It is the only species of the kind Caloenas . It draws its name owing to the fact that it resides mainly in the Îles Nicobar, archipelago in the east of the Indian Ocean.
It would be about the more still alive close relative of the famous dodo Mauritian, extinct since the XVIIe century.
Description
With an average length of approximately 41 cm, the nicobar with camail is equipped with a exceptional Plumage at the Columbiforme S: green sinks iridescent with tons and reflections coppers and bluish, the wing feathers released on the coat and covers, short white tail, red black Bec, legs, brown iris at the male and white at the adult Femelle. The female is slightly smaller than the male.
Surface of distribution
One finds it in all Asian south-east , since the south-east of the India, while passing by the Bay of Bengal, the islands Nicobar, the New Guinea, until the Filipino .It is a Oiseau with behavior Grégaire, which moves in group of islands in islands, including in the uninhabited places, to find its food there.
Food
It niche in the dense Forest S and passes a good part of the day on the ground in the underwoods, to nourish bay S, Fruit S, of Graine S and Insecte S, and sometimes small Invertébré S.
Reproduction
The male carries out a parade in love with Roucoulement S and courbettes, in order to allure the female. Once a couple is formed, it is stable.This last chooses the site of nesting and joins together materials which the female assembles for the Nid. The female lays 2 in general eggs, of white color with a light blue reflection. The adults take turns for to brood during 2 weeks and half.
The young people are naked during the first 10 days, nourished with the milk, then gradually with Graine S and Fruit S and finally leave the nest shortly after the first month.
