This article presents a list of nicknames of the politicians to Quebec .

There exists a habit with the Quebec consisting in giving nicknames to the political personalities, especially with the Prime Ministers for Quebec. Some of them are signs of admiration and from affection, as for others, they pass more like insults.

Prime Ministers for Quebec

  • Maurice Duplessis (1936 - 1939 and 1944 - 1959): “The Chief” (often marked “Cheuf”, in order to imitate old the Joual). This nickname was often used to evoke alleged the Despotisme of Duplessis. It should be noted however that it was apparently accustomed to using this nickname to speak about itself.
  • Daniel Johnson (father) (1966 - 1968): “Danny Servant boy”. This nickname was allotted to him following a caricature made by the caricaturist Normand Hudon, before even as Daniel Johnson does not seize the power, where it was represented like a comic Cowboy.

  • Lucien Bouchard (1996 - 2001): “Excentric”
  • Jean Charest (2003 -):
    • “Patapouf” or “Patapouf First” (this nickname of clown comes from a rumor, that Jean Charest contradicted, according to which it was the nickname that his wife gave him. This nickname was used the first time in a campaign aiming at reversing the Charest government, entitled Destituons Patapouf! , which took the shape of a petition between 2003 and 2004. “Patapouf First” is an alternative depicting Jean Charest like a despotic monarch.)
    • “Curly” (negative allusion to its hair, this nickname comes from a song of Mononc' Serge concerning Jean Charest)
    • “the Sheep” (negative Allusion to its hair.)
    • “P' tit Saint-Jean-Baptist” (nickname due to its birth date, the June 24th, which proves to be the day of the Saint-Jean-Baptist, day of the national Festival of Quebec)
