Dominic James Rocca, known as Nick Rocca (sometimes ortographié LaRocca ), is a Cornet tist of American Jazz , born the April 11th 1889 with the New-Orleans and dead the February 22nd 1961 in the same city.
Biography
Autodidact, Nick Rocca starts in orchestras amateurs. From 1912 to 1916, he plays in the “Dad Jack Laine' S Reliance Band”. It forms with the beater the beater Johnny Stein, a group which, after beginnings in New-Orleans, settles in Chicago. Stein leaves the group (replaced by
Tony Sbarbaro and the Orchestra becomes the “Original Dixieland Jass Band” (sic) alias Original Dixieland Jazz Band. This orchestra records in 1917 what is regarded by tradition as the " first disc of jazz". The orchestra is a great success, but, in 1925,
Nick Rocca, following a nervous breakdown, dissolves the group. It makes an attempt at " comeback" in 1936 by going up the Original Dixieland Band Jazz. It stops the music definitively and does not take part in the " résurrections" following of the orchestra.
