Nick Heidfeld

Nick Heidfeld is a racing driver German born the May 10th 1977 with Mönchengladbach. It evolves/moves in Formula 1 since the season 2000.

Biography

After six years of Karting, Nick Heidfeld begins in the automobile sport in 1994 in the championship from Germany from Formule Ford. Successively victorious of 1600  category; cm ³ then 1800  cm ³, it passes to the Championnat of Germany de Formule 3 in 1996. Third of the championship for its first year in the discipline, it gains the title in 1997, with in premium a victory of prestige in the Grand Prix of Monaco de Formule 3. Brooded by Mercedes, it passes in 1998 to the Formule 3000, in a stable (the West Junior TEAM) especially created for him by the firm with star. As of its first season, it passes near to the dedication, but must be finally inclined vis-a-vis redoubling Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya at the time of the last sleeve of the championship. But in 1999, parallel to its activities of pilot tester for the account of McLaren - Mercedes in Formula 1, it does not leave any chance to its adversaries and gains the title easily.

Nick Heidfeld reaches Formula 1 in 2000, within the French stable Prost - Peugeot. Even if the legitimacy of Heidfeld to be reached F1 is undeniable taking into account its brilliance course, much of observers in this recruitment the first steps of a future bringing together between Prost and Mercedes see (bringing together which will not take place). Within a team in full crisis, Heidfeld knows a very delicate beginning of the season, before taking its marks gradually. If it does not register any point with the championship, it makes beautiful impression by gradually taking the ascending one on its tested fellow-member Jean Alesi.

Passed at Sauber in 2001, Heidfeld is not long in going up on its first podium, at the time of GP of Brazil. Following the advertisement of the retirement of Mika Häkkinen at the end of the season, the doors of McLaren-Mercedes seem to have to open for Heidfeld (then always under contract with Mercedes), but Nick undergoes a true snub when the Anglo-German stable prefers to him its team-member Kimi Räikkönen, considered to be more promising. It remains finally at Sauber where in spite of two very correct springtides, its career seems enliser in the soft belly of the group.

Not retained by Sauber for 2004, it finds refuge at Jordan, a team then in full tumble and prey with important money worries. Although generally relegated in the second part of the group, Heidfled impresses by largely dominating its team-member, the Italian hope Giorgio Pantano, and by giving the feeling to carry to end of arm the dying woman Irish stable. It finishes in particular 7th GP of Monaco, and 8th of the GP of Canada.

In spite of these beautiful services, it remains a long time in uncertainty as for its future Formulates 1 during the winter 2004-2005 of them. At the conclusion of a long comparative test vis-a-vis Brazilian the Antonio Pizzonia), it is finally established for the season 2005 at Williams - BMW at the sides of Australian the Mark Webber. At this stage, Williams-BMW represents the most beautiful its career appropriateness, but it does not lay out as it imagined it of a mounting able to aim at the victory. The frame is indeed not a great success, and the increasingly major dissensions between Williams and BMW are not long in downwards drawing the unit from the team. After a correct beginning of the season in particular marked by one 2nd place with GP of Monaco, performance which it republishes with GP of Europe (after having signed the pole-position), Nick gradually falls down in anonymity, not without having satisfaction regularly to take the best in race on its famous fellow-member Mark Webber, however faster than him in qualifications. Its season stops prematurely because of a large crash landing during tests deprived with Monza, then of one wound to the shoulder after an accident of bicycle.

Particularly appreciated by BMW, it joined in 2006 the rows of the new stable BMW Sauber (fruit of the repurchase of Sauber by BMW). More powerful than its fellow-member Jacques Villeneuve, it confirms its solidity while regularly bringing back points to its employer and finishes ninth with the pilot classification with 23 points.

2007 is thus announced under better auspices, and the hopes placed in F1.07 will not be disappointed. Nick starts with a good series of three 4th consecutive places on the first three Grand Prix of the season. Often placed but never victorious, he manages to go up twice on the podium (2nd in Canada and 3rd to Hungary) and carries out the best season of his career until now. He finishes fifth with 62 marked points, he is especially 1st " autres" (Not-Ferrari and non-McLaren). He is logically renewed for 2008 in the German manufacturer.
