Niccolò Barbieri known as Beltrame , born with Verceil in 1576 and died in Modena in 1641, is a Acteur and dramatic author Italy N.

Niccolò Barbieri formed initially part of the founded troop of the Comici Fedeli in 1605 by Giovanni-Battista Andreini. After having left Fedeli, it formed a troop with which it came to Paris where he accepted a reception very favorable to the court and the city. Louis XIII named it soldier in his guard of honor.

The Commedia dell' arte recovered part of its rights under this director, who was an excellent actor. One cannot say if the character of Beltrame existed before him but Barbieri fixed it, improved it and gave him a very new importance. Beltrame makes the characters of father or husband: it is a a little abrupt and holding the tightened cords of its purse, but lenient and reasonable father; it is a husband débonnaire, pretending to accept the boobs that one tells to him, who sees clearly, however, and which takes its revenge when the hour came from there. It is less easy to deceive than Pantalon, but it has also more real kindness.

Its costume is very simple: it has casaque gray cloth, the of the same case and breeches, flange of fabric without starch paste, leather belt with escarcelle in form of giberne per front. It carries a half-mask to the hooked nose, its beard is cut at a peak.

Also author like the majority of the Italian actors, Beltrame made play at impromptu piece-rates of which later it tried hard to develop the dialog and which it made print with Turin in 1629 and with Venice in 1630. It is entitled: Malavisé or Scapin opposed and Mezzetin tormented . It is certainly this part which created with the character of Scapin a kind of superiority among the roles of first zanni , i.e. servants intrigants.

The character of Beltrame persisted until the end of such as it takes shape in this part like, for example, in the Opere drammatiche giocose Goldoni. It is not not the only work of Barbieri, but its in other compositions it was less faithful to the traditions of commedia LED' arte. In addition to two tragi-comedies, Clotilda and Oristilla , it also gave what it calls a “opera tragica”, entitled It principle Eleuriendo di Persia and a mystical part, Luce imporporata (Rome, 1651).

Testing the need to rehabilitate its profession that particularly felt in France the Italian actors, Barbieri published, to this end, its Supplica, speech familiar of Nicolò Barbieri says Beltrame, addressed to those which, while writing or while Speaking about the actors to darken the merits of their virtuous actions; reading intended for these gentlemen who are not completely stupid critiqueurs of party taken nor (1634), dedicated to Louis XIV, and to which one owes a great number of interesting information on the Italian theater of its time.
