Niccolò Acciaiuoli
Niccolò Acciaiuoli (Castello di Montegufoni, 1310 - Naples, 1365) is a politician and an Italian soldier, wire of Acciaiolo, the florentine family of the Acciaiuoli.
Biography
Amateur of the letter and arts, Niccolò Acciaiuoli is the friend of Pétrarque and Boccace which it accommodates with the castle of Montegufoni in 1362.
The strong bonds of the commercial company of the family carry it to be established with Naples, where it is in close contact with the court near which it acquires the title of rider of King Roberto d' Angiò, and then, the prestigious title of Large Seneshal of the Royaume of Naples. It makes the conquest of the principality of Acaia (1338-1441), formerly yielded to the nephew of king Louis, obtains the Seigniory of Corinth, the promise of the marriage between Giovanna d' Angiò and Louis de Tarente and the reconquest of the Royaume of Hungary for Louis de Tarente. After the death of Louis in 1362, it gets busy to protect the queen from the barons in revolt. His/her cousin is Angelo Acciaiuoli, bishop of Florence, of which remained to us a famous letter where it is denied charges by writing a kind of autobiography, invaluable document historiographic of the events of the Trecento.
He had four wire: Lorenzino Acciaiuoli (death in 1353), Neapolitan patrician, Angelo Acciaiuoli (death in Messine in 1380), tale, Lorenzo Acciaiuoli, baron and Benedetto Acciaiuoli, count, but none them had a long descent.
He made build splendid the Chartreuse de Galluzzo close to Florence, where he is buried. ----
