Nicéphore Soglo

Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo is a politician Bénin ois, born the November 29th 1934. He is the president of Benign April 4th 1991 with the April 4th 1996.

Biography

After studies in economic scenes with the University of Paris and ENA, Nicéphore Soglo returns to the Dahomey (current Bénin). In February 1990, the president Mathieu Kérékou to face a popular movement, suspends the constitution and sets up a National conference at Cotonou. The March 12th 1990, it is named Prime Minister by the High council for Republic (HCR).

The March 24th 1991, it is elected president of the Republic at the time of the first multi-party election since 1972. It carries it vis-a-vis outgoing president Mathieu Kérékou with 67,73% of the voices. In 1992, his wife Rosine Soglo founds the party Renaissance of Benign the and assumes the chairmanship of it.

At the time of the presidential election of the 3 and March 18th 1996, it is beaten by Mathieu Kérékou.

In December 2002, it is elected mayor of the town of Cotonou (economic capital of the country).
