Ngor (island)

Ngor (or gor or Gor ) is an small island of the Senegal, located at broad of the Presqu'île of Cape Verde, to 400 m hardly of the village of Ngor on the Pointe of Almadies, that is to say very close to Dakar.

History

In 1964, a sequence of American documentary film The Endless Summer , interpreted by the legend of the Surfing Robert August, was turned there.

The geographical coordinates of the island are 14° 45 ' 30 NR by 17° 30 ' 56 O.

Population

The population is of origin lébou.

Economic activities

In this environment with the pleasant climate, favourable with the water sports, sporting fishing and the ornithological observation, beaches and hotels develop, and some artists acquired a residence there, such as France Gall or Peter Gabriel.

Administration

Like the village, the island belongs to the district of Almadies in the Département of Dakar (area of Dakar).
