Ngongo Leteta

Ngongo Leteta or Ngongo Lutete (death with Ngandu, on the Lomami, the September 15th 1893), was a African chief of tribe of the Sankuru in current the Democratic republic of Congo. It would have been born towards 1863 and was of origin Tetela or Osonge.

Slave in his youth, it quickly gained his freedom and his independence among the slave ones; it formed its own troop, becoming one of the close relations of Tippo Tip. It attacked Lusambo in 1890 with 500 warriors, but had to beat a retreat vis-a-vis the 200 men of Francis Dhanis. It joined at the same time as Lupungu, and Pania Mutombo with the forces of the State independent of Congo the September 19th 1892 in the fight against the slave in the south-east of the territory, and helped the State independent of Congo against the troops of Sefu, allowing in particular the catch of Nyangwe and Kasongo.
