Ngaliema is a commune of the west of the town of Kinshasa in Democratic republic of Congo. The commune stretches Kintambo towards the south while assembling the Mont Ngaliema, throughout the Route of Matadi. It accommodates the following districts:

  • Mount-Fleury

  • Binza Ozone;
  • Binza Weather;
  • Binza Delvaux;
  • Binza I.P.N.

It holds its name of Ngaliema, chief who signed the “treaty of fraternity” with Henry Morton Stanley in 1881.

The commune in addition accommodates the Palais of Marble, old palate of the hosts under Mobutu Sese Seko, and official residence of the President under Laurent Désiré Kabila.

Ngaliema accommodates also the traditional residence of the Presidents of the DRC, located near the military camp Colonel Tshatshi. This residence is located on the same ground which the Presidential palace built by Mobutu, and completely plundered by the population after its escape in 1997, at the conclusion of the First War of Congo. The Tshatshi camp is also the site of the Ministry for Defense, and with the State Major Général inter-arm with the Armed forces of the Democratic republic of Congo.

Ngaliema shelters also the City of the OAU (now Cité of the African Union), a complex built in the years 1980 to lodge the Heads of States taking part in the top of the OAU which was held has Kinshasa.
