The GIAT 30 is a series of gun S of gauge 30 mm developed to replace the Canon DEFA series 550 on the military aircraft French. The initial speed of ejection of the ammunition is of 1  025 m/s.

Introduced at the end of the years 1980 GIAT 30 is a Canon with barrel, therefore rather adapted to short gusts of a half or a second, with firing electric (with the difference of the DEFA which is with gas) and automatic loading.

Two versions of GIAT 30 are proposed:

  • the GIAT 30 M781 is initially intended to be gone up on helicopter as the Eurocopter Tigre either fixes or out of turret. Its length is of 1,87 m for a weight of 65 kg. Its ammunition is approximately 220 G. The rate of shooting is 750 blows/minute.

  • the GIAT 30 M791 for the fighter plans like the Dassault Rafale. Its length is of 2,4 m for a weight of 120 kg. Its 150 mm long ammunition weighs 275 G. The rate of shooting is to be chosen of 300 with 2  500 blows/minute.
