Newspaper of a country priest

Journal of a country priest is a novel of Georges Bernanos published in 1936.

It describes the discrete existence of a catholic young person PrĂȘtre in the small Flemish parish Ambricourt in the north of France. It is marked by a cancer of the stomach and its despair in front of the lack of faith in the population of the village.

The newspaper is divided into three parts. In the first part the young priest describes his arrival in his parish of the north of France and his first experiments with the poor population. In the second part, it is about the daily life in the parish. The priest describes his meetings with various people and the results of his work. He fails to fill his duty, and it is only during one crisis in the castle of the village that he succeeds in convincing the countess of the existence of God. It is in a fatal situation and it dies one day later. The last milked part of the stay and of died of the priest in Lille after an medical examination.

The book was adapted to the cinema by Robert Bresson.
