Newport RFC is a club of Rugby Welsh based in the town of Newport, and which evolves/moves in the Welsh the First Division. Its players are likely to be selected by the Newport Gwent Dragons, frankness professional with which the club should not be confused and which disputes the Celtic Ligue and the Coupe of Europe.
History
Newport is one of the large clubs of Welsh Rugby. Founded in 1875, it belongs to the eleven clubs which found the Welsh federation (WRU). On several occasions, in these heroic times, the team remains unconquered for long periods and cuts a reputation of invincibility. It gains the first championship of Wales in 1895 and repeats in 1896. It is then the largest provider the international ones with the national team.Newport is a required passage for the teams in round and is distinguished while being the first team from club to make fall the South-African Springboks in 1912. The club thus inaugurated the tradition which wanted that the South-Africans offer a head of springbok to any team which beat them during the rounds, apart from the test matches. The Australia (1957), the New Zealand (1963), the South Africa (1969), Tonga (1974), will fall all into the hell from Rodney Parade.
Newport frequently gains the championship and the Cut twice, but does not play any more the first parts after 1970. Only a championship in 2005 attests passage successful with professionalism.
Since 2003, Newport RFC does not play more European high level any more. Following the regional regrouping of the clubs within five professional franknesses operated by the Welsh federation, L provides its players to the Newport Gwent Dragons, engaged out of Cut of Europe and plays in the championship semi-professional of Wales.
