New music consonante

The new music consonante is current musical born in the Eighties in reaction with the divorce noted between the type-setters from Modern music and their audience.

Birth

Noting that this rupture had been caused by a revolution of the musical language forsaking the traditional forms for a resolutely open work (John Cage…) or, on the contrary, for rigid systems compositionnels making clean slate of last (integral Sérialisme, Post-sérialisme…), of many type-setters tried to join again with musical the tradition known as “traditional”. With this intention, he sought a music consonante in evolution.

In rupture with any search of modernistic system, the new music consonante was often described as postmodern. It is however about a moderate Postmodernisme since fastening with a tradition is undeniable and that many characteristics of the postmodernism are there only parsimoniously (joinings, irony…)

More disturbing is the assimilation which is sometimes made with the current of the Easy listening. Indeed, although opposed to any catastrophic rupture, the type-setters of new music consonante (sometimes called “new consonants”) place themselves from the point of view of very clear evolution.

This movement is thus anchored on same philosophy as the repetitive Musique without however implying the repetition of musical cells. Indeed, this current is not articulated around any compositionnelle characteristic: it can be thus, for example, tonal or atonal. Its only dogma is to think itself as means of communication which cannot develop durably without taking account of the public. Any other consideration contiguous to the language is foreign for him.
