The New-Forest is a race of Poney Britannique.
History
The first information concerning New-Forest goes back to 1016, where the presence of pony is announced in the area New Forest, in the south-west of the Hampshire. A little later the zone was declared hunting preserve royal by Guillaume II the Russet-red which died there, perhaps assassinated.
The race knew a certain number of contributions of blood of outside:

In 1852: loan of the Arab standard Zorah by the queen Victoria;

Under the impulse of Lord Arthur Cecil: use of ponies Highland S, Flagstone S, Fell S, Dartmoor S, Exmoor S, welsh S for the reproduction;

Under impulse Lucas the Bacon: use of ponies Welshs (in particular Starlight ), Dartmoors, Exmoors, Fells and Basuto S for the reproduction;

In 1918 and 1918: presence of the pony of Sports shirt Field Marshall .
The stud-book was created in 1960 by the New Forest Breeding and Cattle Society .
Characteristics
Because of the various origins, the type is rather variable. As example, the size ocille between 1,22 m and 1,47 Mr.
As a whole, New Forest is a solid pony, with good shoulders, a sure foot and a rather long tread, which compence possible weaknesses of conformation. It should be noted that, because of selection, those tend to becoming rarer.
The most remarkable characteristic of New Forest remains its character. Indeed, with some exceptions, it is nice and likes the company. He is thus appreciated by the young riders, which can, with good New-Forest, to obtain interesting results in competition.
