New forces (UDB)
new Forces is the weekly magazine of the attempt of the Belgian democratic Union (UDB) to form a party gathering of the chrétens progressists independently of the Parti social-Christian (unit) after Dexuième world war.
Launching of a weekly magazine
The newspaper is launched by a series of intellectuals among whom Englebert Renier, Maurice Piron, Léopold Levaux; Albert Delpérée. It will appear of February 1945 at August 1946. It accompanies the experiment by the UDB which will make failure. The newspaper defends the positioins progressists Christian women: deconbfessionalisation of the Christian parties, the family like happy medium between individualism and the collectivism (point of view which is that of the Personnalisme of Emmanuel Mounier), the application of the social security, Social justice by the improvement of the relations between workers and owners, an international order removed from the outrageous Nationalisme, the life of the spirit in all its forms, fidelity with the Resistance, which the newspaper sees like the source of new forces . Finally the hedo wants that are met the interests of the Wallonia in the Belgium of the Release.
His/her collaborators and his contents
The newspaper is interested in all the fields of the human activity like the policy with Désiré Denuit which publishes under the pseudo one of Germain Couture, Élie Baussart, the founder of the Walloon Earth who holds to with it a chronicle of the international policy, Maurice Piron who is interested in the literature, Elisee Legros, which, in the years 1950, will publish a remarkable study on the linguistic Frontière. The leading articles of the publication are concerned primarily with three questions: formation of the Belgian democratic Union, the Walloon National congress of Liege (October 1945) and the Second Walloon national congress; finally the return of Léopold III to which the drafting is opposed. Albert Delpérée deals with the economic questions and lance a cry of alarm vis-a-vis the possible Walloon decline.
Success then failure
new Forces is a great success with Liege and is well accommodated with Charleroi: it is besides a kind of prolongation of the action of the Walloon Earth and as of the first weeks of its launching, Maurice Piron in a letter with Baussart to announce that the thousand of subscribers is exceeded. The newspaper is affirmed as increasingly Walloon and declares the glances as we portoins on the world not only will not prevent us from seeing realities of our Walloon ground, but will help us with better seizing them and locating them: new Forces will give to the values and the interests of Wallonia all the place to which they have right within the framework of renovated Belgium. The Walloon question, that one wants or not it is posed at the great day. We will endeavor to find constructive solutions to him. The Walloon question is broad. She embraces the policy fields, economic, social and cultural. We will not neglect aucun. of it
February 17th 1946, the Belgian democratic Union has only one elected official (by political alliance) in the the Walloon Brabant. In addition, the withdrawals of subscription flow to New Forces because of the standpoint of the publication against Léopold III. July 1st, 1946, because of these financial problems, it adopts the twice-weekly formula. But that will be also a failure.
