New York University College off Dentistry

The College off Dentistry is one of the 14 schools of the Université of New York ( New York University , or NYU ). It was founded in 1865 and represents the third older school of Odontologie of the the United States. It is currently on the First Avenue between the 24e and 25e streets, beside the medical school of the University of New York. Its library, founded in 1909, shelters 36.000 volumes and of many documents multimedia

History

The faculty of Odontologie was founded in 1865 under the name of New York College off Dentistry . It was integrated within the University of New York as from 1925. Third older faculty dental of the the United States, it is also most important of the country. In 1957, faculty moved on its current site on the First Avenue, in the building which will take the name of Weissman Clinical Science Building . In 1978, the building work of the Arnold and Marie Schwartz Hall off Dental Sciences ended and, in 1987, the university inaugurated the Kriser Dental Center . In 2001, two laboratories of preclinic simulations opened to train the students with state-of-the-art technologies in this field. In 2002, faculty invested in the opening of the Bluestone Center for Clinical Research , only dental research university center to offer a capacity of reception to keep the patients under medical supervision. The same year saw the inauguration of the Rosenthal Institute for Esthetic Dentistry , a research center on the cosmetic odontology, which also lodges the continuous training program in odontology. Recently, the institute knew vexations besides after the revelations on Larry Rosenthal. It indeed was continued with four recoveries for professional misconduct and lost its right to exert after having admitted the purchase and the illegal resale of drugs, in great quantity.

With the autumn 2005, the formation of infirmary left the Steinhardt School off Education to off form the faculty of infirmary within the College Dentistry.

Equipment

The College off Dentistry, which are composed of the Schwartz Hall off Dental Sciences and of the Weissman Clinical Science Building , point of disjunction all private clinics of patients, the equipment of research and teaching, and offices administrative. The two buildings gather 16 units, made up each one of a waiting room, offices, of a room of x-rays, a meeting room and consultation. The campus of odontology of the University of New York also includes/understands the Central Dental Laboratory , the Milbank Special Care Clinic , the Dr. Saklad Auditorium and the Waldmann Memorial Library .

The College off Dentistry shelters one of the most important libraries in odontology of the United States. The library of origin was founded in 1909, then famous the Waldmann Memorial Library in 1978. This library gathers close to: 36000 pounds (in particular one of the most important collections of rare books in the United States, concerning odontology), 440 reviews professional, a large collection of CD-ROM and audio-visual documents. The administration of the library is currently in negotiations with the Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital to rent a new more modern space in order to accommodate the library.
