Hamilton had with the departure chosen as editor William Coleman. However, the most known editor of the Evening Post , with the length of the 19th century, was William Cullen Bryant, a free trade militant. In 1881 Henry Villard taken the control of the newspaper, which was then managed by his/her son Oswald Garrison Villard, founding member of the National Association for the Advancement off Coloured People (NAACP) and of the American Civil Liberties Union . The Murdoch years

Rupert Murdoch, of origin Australia, was not obliged to resell the newspaper to conform to the federal regulation which limits the acquisition of the media by foreigners. The Post passed then between the hands of transitory owners: Peter S. Kalikow, a magna of the real estate, which went bankrupt; Steven Hoffenberg, a financier convinced of fraud; finally during two weeks in March 1993, Abe Hirschfeld, an eccentric which had made fortune by building garages. The Post was repurchased in 1988 by the News Corporation of Murdoch, after it had obtained American nationality in 1985, which released it from the restrictions on the acquisition of the media.

Leading line

Under the direction of Rupert Murdoch, the leading line of the newspaper became preserving and populist.

The Post is recognized for the quality of its sports columns. Certain readers, who do not share the preserving point of view of the newspaper, buy it sometimes only for its sports columns.

The New York Post is also known for its leading article “ people ” of Liz Smith, Cindy Adams and Elisa Lipsky-Karasz.

Sales

The Post drew with 700.000 specimens at the end of the years 1960. The sales plunged up to 418.000, to go back to 680.000 more recently. In spite of its great diffusion, the newspaper is still overdrawn (approximately 40 million dollars of annual loss). However, there remains constant by Rupert Murdoch, which placed his/her Lachlan son at his direction, so, perhaps, to keep an important preserving newspaper with New York. Lachlan finally gave up this work.
