Synopsis

This series reports the daily life of investigators of police force working in fiction police station 15 (15th District) located at Manhattan, New York ( NYPD means '' New York City Police Department '', the letter “C” being omitted in the initials). Most of the time, an episode proceeds over one day during which the inspectors inquire into several businesses (often a murder and a light business more ).

Is the series very realistic in the work of the criminal police force and is centered more on the aspect “how to make acknowledge the person? ” that on “which committed the crime? ” (it is useless to seek plans machiavelic of geniuses of the crime to the Agatha Christie, it is extremely rare, as in reality). For obvious dramaturgic reasons (thus not very realistic on this point), the culprit is generally found in the course of the day when the episode finishes.

The evolution of the behavior of the police officers vis-a-vis so that they see (and vis-a-vis the reactions of their colleagues or superiors) is an important component of the series.

Even if it is not in the basic synopsis, New York Police Blues also became “the history of the redemption” of Andy Sipowicz, only character present in all the episodes (and at the cop beginning racist, violent and alcoholic).

This series was outstanding as of its launching for its very realistic form in the work of the criminal police force and also for its manner of filming (immitation of the images in catch " camera with the épaule" , much of movements) which immerses even more the televiewer in the action. The coarseness, the violence caused by the investigators, the nudity of certain scenes were also a great innovation in 1993, especially on a microwave channel. This form is less innovative today and one can consider that 24 hours stopwatch or The Shield borrowed the way traced by New York Police Blues .

The series has very New Yorkean outsides whereas it is mainly turned in studio with Los Angeles.

France 3 diffused the series in the disorder: to catch up with Jimmy which was ten years old in advance on the diffusion, France 3 started with season 10 followed of the 11 before diffusing seasons 7 to 9 and connecting with the 12 whereas its diffusion on Jimmy was not finished. Since, France 3 took again the series since the beginning to diffuse seasons 1 to 6. In France, certain episodes will thus have remained more than ten years new on the network Hertzien.
