The New York City Council (“municipal council of New York”) is the legislative organization of the town of New York. It is composed of 51 members coming from the 51 municipal districts distributed in the five Borough. The Counsil plays a part of counterweight vis-a-vis the capacities of the mayor, by controlling the work of the municipal employees, by determining the use of the grounds of the city, and while legislating on various subjects having milked with Big Apple . The Council has moreover the exclusive responsibility to ratify budget of the city, and its various members cannot ensure more than two consecutive mandates. The council is composed moreover of various committees which have a function of monitoring on the various bodies of the capacity in the town of New York.

The council is chaired by the Speaker , which is currently a woman, Christine C. Quinn, attached to the democratic party. The New York City Council confirms moreover the fact well that the town of New York is closer to the political wing progressist, although the mayor Michael Bloomberg is officially republican since 48 of 51 seats of advisers are occupied by democratic . The president of the majority, i.e. the democrats is currently Joel Rivera, whereas the three republican advisers are represented by James Oddo.
