New Urbanism
The New Urbanism is current a urban born with the the United States of America, country where it developed and in which it knew a great popularity of the Années 1980 at the beginning of the Années 1990. It draws its inspiration from the old cities European (what is worth to him to be also called neotraditional ).
This movement wants to be a total opposite course with the American modern town planning which privileges displacements in car with the installations deployed on wide zones. He also wants to be in opposition with the quickly built uniform residential zones (model which also was essential in Europe with the suburban zones built since the Années 1960).
It is a question of finding a scale of installation, a density and a relationship between the frame and the vacuums more favorable to the piétons.
New Urbanism would seek with réhumaniser the urban Espace, to make it less systematic. One thus finds in this movement of the districts with houses different from/to each other but assembled in urban areas remaining coherent and of intermediate size. One of the goals of the movement is also to brew all the population of all the social categories by offering in the same zone several types of dwellings.
Accordingly definite, invariably certain criteria of installation are found:
- Of the centres town, Park S, stores and school S accessible to feet (ideally in 5 minutes)
- From the House S close relations from the street and close relations from/to each other
- From the various types of dwelling (Apartment S, houses) and at various prices mixed in the same district
- From the district S connected ones to the others by a dense and various network (for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians)
- From the garages from houses seldom directly on the street (but rather to the back of the house)
- From the short and skirted streets trees
- the sites and buildings placed well are reserved for a civic and Community use (Community activities being very encouraged).
As example of this movement, one can quote the work of Andrès Duany on the project Prospect New Town in Longmont in the Colorado (gallery below). The originators of the urban area Celebration near to the park Walt Disney World Resort also claimed themselves of this current.
