The New Jack Swing (or swingbeat ) is a Musical genre, fusion between R&B and the Hip hop, created in 1987 by the producer Teddy Riley with the album Make it last forever of Keith Sweat and popularized thanks to its first productions (Bobby Brown, Johnny Kemp, Today), but especially with its first group Guy which it formed with the singer Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling (which will be then replaced by Damion Hall, the brother of Aaron). New Jack Swing was characterized by songs dancing on rates/rhythms hip-hop " swing" , with a very marked clear case (the trademark of Teddy Riley), the whole carried by a voice Drunk/Gospel. New Jack Swing replaced the Funk 80 ' S (Urban) - in lose speed vis-a-vis the Hip-hop as from 1986 - and was the kind dominating of the American black popular music sung between 1988 and 1993. It is little known in France since it was not there whole diffused by the recording companies and the media. The only album New Jack which is well-known in France east Dangerous (1991) of Michael Jackson primarily produced by Teddy Riley.

The last year which knew productions R&B of the New-Jack type is 1993. In 1993 and especially 1994, it is replaced by the drunk Hip-hop/ called commonly R' B (abbreviation of Rhythm & Blues).
