New Canaan

New Canaan is a city located in the county of Fairfield, in the State of the Connecticut (the United States). According to the census of 2000, New Canaan had a total population of 19.395 inhabitants. The city has two stations of the Subway-North Railroad, one baptized “New Canaan” and other “Talmadge Hill”. The duration of the voyage until Grand Exchange Station with Manhattan is of approximately an hour.

New Canaan is moreover one of the cities richest of the the United States.

Geography

According to the Office of the Census of the United States, surface of the east city of 58,2 km ², including 57,3 km ² of grounds and 0,9 km ² of water levels (either 1,56%).

Demography

According to the Census of 2000, there were 19.395 inhabitants, 6.822 households, and 5.280 families in the city. The Population density was of 338,4 hab/km ². There were 7.141 houses with a density of 124,6 maisons/km ². The ethnic decomposition of the population was: 95,27% white; 1,04% black; 0,04% Amerindian; 2,29% Asian S; 0,01% natives of the islands of the Peaceful ; 0,38% of the other races; 0,98% of two or more races. 1,74% of the population were Hispanique or Latino of any race.

There were 6.822 households, of which 41,7% had children of less than 18 years, 69,2% were married couples , 6,6% had a woman who was isolated relative, and 22,6% were not-family households. 19,4% of the households were made up people alone and 9,3% 65 years people alone or more. The average household comprised 2,83 people and the average family had 3,26 people.

In the city the population pyramid was 31,2% below 18 years, 3,3% from 18 to 24,25,4% from 25 to 44,26,6% from 45 to 64, and 13,5% which were 65 years old or more. The median age was 40 years. For 100 women, there were 91,2 men. For 100 18 year old women or more, there were 85,7 men.

The median income by household of the city was 141.788 US Dollars, and the median income by family was $175 331. The men had a median income of $100 000+ compared with $53 924 for the women. The Revenu per capita of the city was $82 049. 2,5% of the inhabitants and 1,4% of the families lived under the Poverty line. 2,2% of the people of less than 18 years and 2,2% of the people of more than 65 years lived under the poverty line.
