Never Satisfies
The Jamais Satisfies was the first motor vehicle to cross the course of 100 km/h. It was an electric car in form of Torpille on wheels and the record was established, according to the sources, the April 29th or on May 1st 1899 with Achères (Yvelines). It was equipped with Pneu S Michelin. It seems that this car was built by General Compagnie of Automobile Transport Jenatzy.
Pilot
Its pilot, the Belgian Camille Jenatzy, was the son of Constant Jenatzy, manufacturer of manufactured goods containing rubber, of which tires, new for the time. Camille had made studies of Engineer in electricity. It was interested in the electric Traction cars, which it put pursuant to the 1898.
Motivation
Wishing to be made a place in the very promising market of the Parisian hackney carriages, it creates there a factory which will produce many hackney carriages and electric vans. It had a frightening competitor in the person of the Carrossier Jeantaud against which it did not cease fighting with blow of publicity based on the speed of the vehicles.Definitively to sit the notoriety of its company, Jenatzy built a prototype in the shape of shell produced by the Rothschild carriage-builder in partinium (rolled magnesium and tungsten, aluminum alloy).
The suggestive form of the body, heavily supported by its name of baptème, Never Satisfies, will contribute largely to the mediatization of the firm.
Motorization
The record was possible thanks to 2 electrical motors placed at the rear between the wheels (mark Postel-Vinay), of a total maximum power of 50 kw (approximately 68 horses). The food was done by accumulator batteries Fulmen (80 elements), which represented about half of the total weight which was of 1,5 ton. The engines attacked the aft wheels motor coaches directly.
Speed records
Speed reached was of 105,882 km/h, thus pulverizing the record of the count Gaston de Chasseloup-Laubat who was of 92,78 km/h dated March 4th, 1899.After this exploit the Engine and spark-ignition gasoline will supplant for the Siècle according to electric technology.
The vehicle is exposed to the museum of the car of Compiegne (Oise).
