Neuwied

Neuwied is a town of Germany, in the north of the Land of the Rhineland-Palatinat, to approximately 15 km in the north of Coblentz. It is the capital of the district of Neuwied.

The city is on Right Bank of the the Rhine, with the Confluent of the Wied.

Founded in 1653 by Frederic de Wied, it is famous for its religious tolerance, it accepted the fugitive ones of any religion: Moravian brothers, Calvin ists, Catholic S, mennonists, Lutheran S, Juif S. It was an independent city. The current princely family demeurre still in the castle in the middle of the city on the edges of the Rhine. Neuwied was famous for its cabinet work, its old of gold being the XVIIIe century. The exellence of its pieces of furniture was if famous that good number of orders came French aristocrats. One can see some with the museum Nissim de Camondo in Paris.

Neuwied is an industrial city. The material industry lost its importance, but there are still metallurgical large companies and of construction of machines.

Infrastructure

One reaches Neuwied by the trunk roads B9, B42 and B256. The highways A3, A48 and A61 are a few kilometres from Neuwied.

Neuwied is on the line of railroad Cologne - Francfort-sur-le-Main and by the station of Coblentz, one can travel towards almost all the big cities of the Germany.
