Neuville-the-Ladies
Geography

Until the Revolution, the history of Neuville merges with that of its priory, and it is well rightly that one preserved at common his name of Neuville the Ladies. According to the tradition, the first village, which was called Luyseis, was located on left bank of the Reputation, with a few 600 meters of the village current. Completely destroyed by a fire, it was rebuilt with the site which it occupies today and took the name of Neuville: Nova.villa On a not specified date was created a monastery Benedictine of women depending on the monastery of men of Saint-Claude. This monastery received only noble girls. In 1775, the priory itself was secularized. From now on, it was not occupied any more by nuns, but by chanoinesses, resulting from the more big families of France, which did not make wishes and carried out a very free life.
The arrival of the revolution put a term at this brilliant period. The very new church Sainte Catherine was demolished, as well as the bell-tower of the parish church.
