Neunhoffen
Neunhoffen is a variation of the commune of Dambach, in the Département of the Low-Rhine.
Etymology
The name of the village is composed Neun in the following way + Hoffen , which means " literally; Last nine farms " , the new figure (Neun) followed Hoffen (court, the farm).
In dialect, the commune is called " Ninhoffen " and its inhabitants " Ninhefler " . In French, one will adopt following name: Neunhoffenois (E) .
History
The village is mentioned for the first time in 1170. It then forms part of the county of Bitche.
To the 14th century and until in 1480, Neunhoffen belongs to the count of Lichtenberg with the Château of Schœneck.
The village becomes French in 1793.
A data-processing play called " Across the Battle field " , strategy of war of the Operation Nordwind, mentions the village of Neunhoffen during the combat of the Second world war.
