Neuné

The Neuné , is a French river which runs in the department of the the Vosges. It is an affluent of the Vologne out of Right Bank, therefore a tributary of a tributary of the the Moselle.

Geography

Neuné is born on the territory from the commune of Gerbépal located in the Regional natural park from the Balloons from the Vosges, where is held part of its course. It moves initially towards the North-West, then towards the west, finally towards south-west and ends up joining Vologne, out of Right Bank, on the level of the small town of Field-the-Duke.

Common crossings

Neuné crosses the following communes (of upstream downstream):

Gerbépal, Corcieux, the Holly-grove, Biffontaine, Poulières, the Vault-in front of-Heathers, Laveline-in front of-Heathers and Field-the-Duke, all located in the department of the the Vosges.

Hydrology

Neuné is an extremely abundant river. Its flow was observed during one 22 years period (1986-2007), with Laveline-in front of-Heathers, locality located at little distance from its confluence with the Vologne. Studied surface is of 94 km ², that is to say 97% of the total area catchment river.

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Laveline-in front of-Heathers is of 2,22 m ³ a second.

Neuné posts seasonal fluctuations of flow moderate. The period of high waters proceeds in season winter, and present average monthly flows oscillating between 2,63 and 3,59 m ³ a second, from November to March included (with two maximum, the first in January and a second more important in March). As of April, the flow strongly decreases then the fall continues to lead to the period of the low waters, which proceeds July at September, with a fall of the monthly flow average energy up to 0,833 m ³ in August, which remains very comfortable for such a small river. But the fluctuations of flow can be more important according to the years and over shorter periods.

With the low water level the VCN3 can fall until 0,250 m ³ a second, in the event of dry period quinquennial, that is to say 250 liters a second, which is not too severe (see note).

As for the risings, they can be rather important, taking into account the exiguity of the catchment area. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth respectively 21 and 28 m ³. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 32 m ³, the QIX 20 of 37 m ³ a second, while the QIX 50 was not calculated, for lack of duration of sufficient observation to do it validly (see note). The volume of believed of Neuné are assembled thus to more than 30% of those of the Vologne.

The recorded maximum instantaneous flow with Laveline-in front of-Heathers during this period, was of 36,3 m ³ a second on December 30th, 2001, while the recorded maximum daily output was of 32,6 m ³ a second on October 4th, 2006. If one compares the first of these figures with the values of the various QIX of the river, one notes that this rising of a vicennial nature and thus was statistically intended to repeat itself every approximately 20 years.

Neuné is an abundant river. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 746 millimetres annually, which is more twice the higher than the overall average of the France all basins confused, and definitely higher than the average of the French basin of the the Moselle (445 millimetres downstream from Metz). The specific Débit of the river (or Qsp) posts of this fact a solid figure: 23,6 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
