Geography

Neuilly in Keep is located in a wood plain, still largely covered in XIVe century, and what until the 1840. The commune is crossed by the river of the Vouzance , being thrown in the Loire in the commune of Molinet and by the brook of the Crésançon .

The commune of Neuilly in Keep is located in the department Allier, to 8 km of the Keep (chief town of the canton) where one finds trade and services with the person, with 50km of Vichy, 60km of Mills, 55km of Roanne. Of a surface of 2502 hectares, it counts 236 inhabitants with the provisional census of 2006,228 in 1999. Located at the borders of three departments (To combine, the Saone and the Loire, the Loire), the commune is in the middle of a rural territory, relatively wedged in spite of the fact that the RN7 and the RCEA pass in the vicinity. History

The origin of the name of Neuilly appeared in the form nubli in XVIe, probably a deformation of novi acum , new ground, witness of the medieval clearings.

The Gallo-Roman presence is attested on the commune by the discovery in the XIXe century of several bronze statuettes representing Cérès, Mars and Hercules, of bases of bronze and residues of manufacture which can indicate the existance of a workshop of founder.

Neuilly in Keep depends in the beginning on the diocese on Autun and of the priory of Marcigny, the Burgundian influence is noticed jsuque on the tympanum of the Romance church.

Personalities related to the commune

Georges Gallay is a democratic middle-class man, born in the commune of Neuilly in Keep in 1812. Bachelor of law, he becomes general adviser and while continuing a political career as mayor of the Keep, Neuilly Justice of the Peace in Keep.

He takes part in the walk of the republicans of the Keep on the sub-prefecture of Lapalisse at the time of the coup d'etat of Napoleon III in 1851. This is worth to him to be put under house arrest in the south-ouset, then in 1858 in Algeria and finally in Annecy.

April 8th, 1880, 3000 people take part in the civil burial of this character. He is buried in the middle of the park of the Castle of Bécauds (middle-class house of the 19th century with a laundrette and a park of wood).
