Neuilly-in-Vexin

Neuilly-in-Vexin is a commune of the Val-d'Oise located in the middle of the French Vexin, to approximately 50 km in the North-West of Paris.

Its inhabitants are Néovicien () S.

Geography

Neuilly-in-Vexin is located at the northern end of the hillock of the wood of Caillouet and dominates the wooded small valley of Arnoye and the plate of the Vexin.

The commune is bordering on Marines, Chars, Heaulme and Haravilliers in the department of the Val-d'Oise; Lavilletertre and Chavençon in the department close to the Oise.

History

The name of Neuilly-in-Vexin comes from Latin novalia indicating the lately cleared grounds.

The village is called Nuelliacum in 1092. The history of the commune is very similar to that of Marines. Besides the village was called Neuilly-Marine until the December 2nd 1880.

Monuments and places of visit

the church Saint-Denis , mentioned in a document of 1118, is a composite building which goes back to the 12th century but was largely altered at the 19th century (nave and sides probably going back to 1866, date engraved on the gate). The stained glasses were offered by the baron of Vaux.

In the center of the commune the castle draws up traditional style which dates from the 17th century. The body of central building is decorated of a polygonal fore-part with pediment and is framed of two square houses. It is decorated of a beautiful park.
