Neue Zürcher Zeitung (shortened NZZ) is a Swiss press group which publishes the newspaper of the same name.

The Newspaper

Solomon Gessner makes appear the newspaper for the first time the January 12th 1780 under the name of Zürcher Zeitung ( newspaper inhabitant of Zurich ). It is in 1821 that the newspaper takes its current name of Neue Zürcher Zeitung. Into 1868, the newspaper is transformed into public limit company, which it is always today. None of 1400 shareholders has more than 1% of the capital.

The NZZ is, with the Wiener Zeitung of 1703 and the Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung of 1705, one of the oldest newspapers of German language to appear nowadays.

The newspaper sells approximately 140.000 daily specimen.
