Neubrandenbourg
Neubrandenburg is a city located in Mecklembourg-Poméranie Western, in the North of Berlin (Germany). Its population is estimated at 68.416 inhabitants (2005).
The city was founded in 1248, by the governor of Brandebourg. In 1292, the city and its neighborhoods were compared to Mecklenbourg.
Neubrandenburg always has its medieval fortifications with four access doors.

Geographical location: In the south-east of the Moor of Mecklenburg, in edge of the Landscape Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, in the north of the Lake Tollensesee, which belongs to the agglomeration and in the valley of Tollense, Datze and Linde, roughly halfway between Berlin and the island of Rügen
History
Founded by the margrave Johann I. of Bandenburg in 1248, the city probably occupies, at least, the establishment of the order franciscain on this place at the semi-century would support this thesis, a considerable role in the life of the margraves of Askan origin and manages to preserve this role, when the city falls under the hands from the regents from Mecklenburg in 1298, and, starting from 1347, is incorporated in their feudal territory. Consequently, since the end of the medieval time the city forms, at the side of Güstrow and Parchim, one of the principal centers of the administration.
Following the decline economic to allot to the War Thirty Year old, the little populated surroundings, as well as a rigid mode and a constitution until in 1918, contribute to delay the development of the agglomeration decisively. Its economic function is limited at that time in theory to a market, in order to even meet the elementary needs for the city and neighbouring regions, in way, that the currents of industrialization, which mark the entity of the XIXe century, are established only tardily, in the form of company of treatment of agricultural produce, foundries and construction of agricultural machinery, which are sold, in the neighbouring places. But they are especially its equestrian markets and of wool, on which its reputation is based.
After the occupation of the places by the Red Army, the city is vandalisée and devastated in a foolish way, involving the destruction with 80% of the historical center, few days before the end of the Second world war. Under the Communist regime of old GDR between 1952 and 1990 it finds its statute of administrative center and seat of the public authorities.

Transport
Located at approximately 150 km of Berlin and equal Schwerin outdistances, like 100 km of Rostock, it is accessible by a20 Highway to the east and the Trunk roads, passing near the center town, B96 (axis relaying Sassnitz, Stralsund, Berlin and Zittau), B104 (between Lübeck, Neubrandenburg and Stettin), as well as B192 (of Neubrandenburg with Wismar) and B197 (of Neubrandenburg with Anklam) in the east.
In the same way the city forms a rail junction between the lines of Berlin with Stralsund and that of Hamburg with Stettin. At the northern exit of the city, along B96 an airport is.

Tourist sites
With its enclosing wall and its four red brick gates in Gothic style, the town of Neubrandenburg has one of the medieval fortifications best preserved of XIIIe at XVe century. Surrounding the city over length a 2.300 m and reaching up to 7 m of height, four gates (Stargarder Tor, Friedländer Tor, Treptower Tor and Neues Tor), 52 shelters of guard and a tower for prisoners (Fangelturm) are incorporated in his structure. Moreover, one finds there the church principal (Hauptpfarrkirche) set up in 1298 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who, after her destruction at the time of the Second world war, was rebuilt in 1970 to accommodate concerts, an old Franciscain convent with its church, Saint Jean, the regional museum, whose foundation goes up with 1872, and, consequently, knows one of the more long traditions of this kind in the Lande of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and an old mill (Vierrademühle), which, nowadays developed in primary education site from the gastronomical point of view with multiple function and pluriculturel.
