The group Neu Beginnen (in French " New departure ") is one two groups of opposition which were constituted within the social democrat Parti of Germany after the seizure of power by the Nazis with the goal to renew the labor movement. The other group joined together the Socialistes revolutionists of Germany around Karl Böchel and Siegfried Aufhäuser.

Neu Beginnen is resulting from a group of former Communists and part of the left wing of the groups of young socialist workers ( Sozialistische Arbeiter-Jugend ), who in 1931 under the control of Walter Loewenheim (whose pseudonym was " Miles" ) had fixed itself like objective the reunification of the SPD and the Communist party of Germany. Two years later this objective was abandoned. This organization had been held secret as of its creation, which supported the passage in clandestinity. In September 1933 the representation of the SPD in exile with Prague ( Sopade ) directed by Karl Frank, published the platform written by Miles Neu Beginnen which gave its name to the group. This representation got money to finance the militants living in the Reich and to inform the foreigner on the exactions of the Nazi regime.

Neu Beginnen was fixed for objective to form executives able to frame the militants and to prepare them with clandestinity, the illegal transmission of information and the maintenance of the contact with the foreigner. These measures were intended to prepare a catch to be able during the fall of Adolf Hitler. But dice 1935, the Gestapo started to stop members of these networks.

The bringing together with the Volksfront , alliance transitory of Communists and social democrats created in November 1935, allowed a co-operation between these resistance movements, which published in 1938 a common program, entitled " Deutsche Freiheit" , which insisted on the need for a form of resistance not only moral, but also political and active. The leaders were stopped with the autumn 1938, and the movement gradually disaggregated. The last cells were dismantled in 1944.
