Neu-Ulm
Neu-Ulm is a town of Germany, located on Right Bank of the the Danube, in Bavaria. It forms an urban whole with the town of Ulm, on the left bank, which belongs to the Bade-Wurtemberg. The name Neu-Ulm means “German News-Ulm”.
Chronology
- 1810 : The border between the Kingdom of Bavaria and the Royaume of Wurtemberg is established in the medium of the Danube.
- 1814: First hard copy of name “Neu-Ulm”.
- 1844-1857: Construction of the “Bundesfestung” (" fortress fédérale") of Ulm of which a part is on the territory of Neu-Ulm.
- 1853: First railway line (towards Augsburg).
- 1857: Creation of the blazon of the city (which did not have yet the official statute of a city).
- 1865: Rise in row in city by the king Louis II in Bavaria.
- as from 1906: The fortifications are shaven, the city is spread, and the first factories settle.
- 1944/45: The city is strongly damaged by air raids: 80% of the buildings are destroyed like all the bridges on the Danube.
- 1951-1991: Neu-Ulm is a garrison of the Custom-American army in Germany.
- years 1970: The city increases by incorporating nine villages of the neighborhoods.
- years 1990: The number of inhabitants crosses the threshold of 50.000.
